Safety in the Sun

Don’t Risk Sun Damage!

We all love the feeling of warm sun on our skin, but what is the health cost of that bronzed skin?

The American Cancer Society has released its annual statistics report for 2019, and the numbers show us that skin cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in the United States.

On top of that, melanoma skin cancer diagnoses continue to rise. Millions of people develop skin cancer every year, and one in five Americans develop some form of skin cancer by the time they reach 70 years of age.

During this experience, at 1:00 pm CDT on Monday, June 14th, you’ll learn about some of the damaging effects that too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure can have on the skin. You’ll also find tips to help protect yourself and your loved ones from the dangers of too much sun exposure.

Get the Facts

Who needs sunscreen? How does sunscreen work? Doesn’t your body need vitamin D from the sun?

There are all good questions, but can be tricky to answer due to all the myths out there surrounding sun protection ranging from the “importance” of getting a “base tan” to the idea that water can protect you from sunburn.

You’ll learn more about the link between the sun’s rays and skin cancer and how to spot skin changes that may require a doctor’s attention. We’ll also cover the difference between UVA and UVB rays and give you do-it-yourself methods for re-nourishing your skin after a day in the sun.

During Safety in the Sun, I'll help you separate fact from fiction and get you set up for a lifetime of sun safety!

Treat Your Skin Right

There’s a wide range of perspectives when it comes to dealing with sun exposure. Some people can’t wait to lay out for hours with a bottle of tanning oil while others go to the beach or pool armed with SPF 100, hats, and long-sleeved shirts to protect themselves from UV exposure. Most people find themselves somewhere in-between, owning a couple of products labeled SPF, and slather it on occasionally hoping for the best.

During Safety in the Sun, you’ll learn why limiting your exposure to UV rays is the most effective way to prevent your risk for skin cancer and other effects of sun damage. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn the ins and outs of sun protection and get all your questions answered!
